Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Do you sell specific performance materials? Do you have a copy of a particular recording of a performance?
A: Unfortunately, we do not sell recordings of performances or performance materials. If you are looking for a particular performance on VHS or DVD, we suggest checking your local libraries through World Cat.

Q: What does Hamlet mean when he asks "To be or not to be"? Were actors actually followed by bears?
A: We do not respond to general research or assignment questions. However, the ISE houses a wealth of scholarly information on Shakespeare's Life and Times. See our Shakespeare's Life and Times for any questions you may have about the contexts of Shakespeare's plays. If you have a suggestion about additions to Shakespeare's Life and Times, let us know above.

Q: I know of a great resource on Shakespeare! Can you add it to your site?
A: First, check that it meets our criteria for linking.

Q: Who is the author of this site? How do I cite your site?
A: See our page on Citing the ISE. Friends of the ISE can access a formatted citation of each page from the Toolbox.

Q: What are the benefits of becoming a Friend to the ISE?
A: The ability to save your own annotations on texts, have a print-ready view, and custom citations are just a few of the many benefits of becoming a Friend of the ISE. For more information, see Benefits of Becoming a Friend.

Q: How do I become a Friend of the ISE?
A: See the Making Waves campaign section. If you have any further questions about Becoming a Friend, please contact us.

Q: I would like to use text/an image/performance materials from your site. How do I obtain proper copyright?
A: See our Copyright page.

There is also an extensive list of FAQs on Shakespeare's Life and Times you can consult.
